Kauai High School’s varsity girls basketball defeated Kohala of the Big Island Interscholastic Federation in the opening round of the Snapple Girls Basketball Championships – Division II state tournament.
The Red Raider girls beat the Cowboys, 45-34, Wednesday evening at Kalani High School in Honolulu.
Marissa Layosa led Kauai with 13 points, followed by Monique Tomacder with 12 points and Taegan Keep with 11.
Kohala’s Brittany Shimono scored a game-high 21 points.
Kauai will next take on No. 4 seed Kalani of the Oahu Interscholastic Association at 5 p.m. today at Kalani High in the quarterfinals.
