County should not be subsidizing golf course
It has come to my attention that the Wailua Municipal Golf Course has been operating at a deficit for several years. I understand that last year the cost was a $1,200,000 loss. The 18-hole round fees for residents run from as low as $1 to $20, and for non-residents from $48 to $60. The US average for a 18-hole round of golf is $40 with the average for the best public courses being $188 to $495. Wailua is considered one of the best public courses in the US.
I would like to know why our public officials are allowing this small group of Kauai residents to be subsidized for $1.2 million so they can play golf on our tax money.
Surely our council can spend our hard-earned tax money on projects that help all of us on Kauai. Projects like: the homeless, affordable housing, traffic, crime, drugs problem, education, to name just a few. Why have you allowed this poor management of “our” money for so long? What have you been doing?
We have wasted tens of millions of our tax dollars to be spent on a small group of golfers who do not need to be subsidized. Who is watching our ship?
