John Hurst Schrader

May 3, 1945 to Dec. 26, 2016

John Hurst Schrader was preceded in death by sister Georgene (Harry) Pharis, brother Eric (Anita) Schrader and two daughters, Nicole (Jon) Garcia and Windy Schrader, along with his four grandchildren and beloved great-grandson, Haena.

He loved surfing, fishing and most of all raising his oldest grandson, Kegan Ahlgren.

In his memory, please join us for a paddle out Saturday, Jan. 21, at 11 a.m. at Hanalei Peir.

Arie Koene

Arie Koene of Poipu passed away in Wilcox Medical Center on Jan. 5 at the age of 91. He was born in the Netherlands on Sept. 22, 1925, and was a retired consultant on ports and harbors.

He is survived by his wife Ada Koene of Poipu; sons Robbert Koene and Roeland (Brigitte) Koene; and sister Sijn Van Kerkhoff, all of the Netherlands.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 21, at the Hanapepe Hawaiian Congregational Church, with services beginning at 10 a.m.

Kauai Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the Koene family with arrangements.

Marcelino ‘Kucho’ Coyaso

Marcelino “Kucho” Coyaso passed away at the age of 88 on Dec. 20 at Wilcox Medical Center. Born on Sept. 28, 1928, he was a truck driver and trainer with McBryde Sugar Company.

He was preceded in death by his father Isodoro Coyaso; mother Maria Coyaso; son Damien Coyaso; grandson Austin Baretto; brothers Ernest “Nato” Coyaso and Phillip “Bito” Coyaso; and sister Beatrice Coyaso Camacho.

He is survived by his wife, Isabella Coyaso; sons Russell (Valerie) Coyaso of Brydeswood, Alfred (Colleen) Coyaso of Lawai, and Gerry (Cheryl) Coyaso of Kalaheo; daughter, Annamarie (Howard) Tolbe of Eleele; 12 grandchildren, Shandon Coyaso, Bruce (Wailana) Kanoho Jr., Crystal (Koty) Kaiakapu, Ashley (Tyson) Relacion, Aaron (Sheena) Coyaso, Brandon Kanoho, Shantel (RJ) Coyaso, Chelsie (Howie) Kanoho, Adam (Sunni) Coyaso, Rachel (Camden) Coyaso, Hope Coyaso and Chace Coyaso; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Laura “Lita” Coyaso Vales of Pearl City, Oahu, and Dora Coyaso Vales of Vacaville, Calif.; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 18, at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo. Visitation will be at 8:30 a.m. with services beginning at 10 a.m. Internment will be held at the Holy Cross Cemetery and refreshments will follow at the Church Hall.

Arrangements were handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.

Erick Manguchei

Erick Manguchei, 48, passed away on Jan. 7 peacefully in his home. He was born on Aug. 3, 1968, in Lihue. He was a mechanical operations supervisor with Kauai Coffee Company.

He was preceded in death by his father, Manuel Manguchei Jr.

He is survived by his wife Leona “Kea” Manguchei; daughters Kaelyn Manguchei (Cody Wallace) and Sofia-Marie Manguchei and six hanai daughters; mother Mary Manguchei; brothers Alan Eugenio and Orlando Manguchei; best friend Darren “Bullay” (Lani Agoot); Agoot ohana, along with numerous aunties, uncles, cousins, family and friends.

Services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 28 at Kapaa Missionary Church with visitation from 9 a.m. and services beginning at 10 a.m.

Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens. A celebration of life will follow immediately at Nawiliwili Park and Kalapaki Beach Park.

Aloha or casual attire is requested.
