LIHUE — The Diabetes Self-Management Program will begin next week.
“I encourage our kupuna to sign up for the upcoming workshop series to learn about ways to improve their health. Past participants have told us that they’ve gained a lot from the experience,” said Kealoha Takahashi, Kauai County executive on aging.
The free six-week series hosted by the Agency on Elderly Affairs starts on Jan. 12, and will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the Lihue Civic Center, Piikoi Building.
Pre-registration is required. The class size is limited to 16 participants and their caregivers. If space is available, younger people will be able to attend the workshop for a $40 fee.
Participants will make weekly action plans, share their experiences and help each other deal with the problems that may arise.
The workshops are part of a statewide initiative called “Healthy Aging Partnership — Empowering Elders.”
