Keiki Toy Run brings in Christmas gifts

LIHUE — Nainoa Prem was too young to ride a motorcycle, but brought a new toy to the Keiki Toy Run on Sunday at the Historic County Building.

“We’re riding along in a car,” said Nainoa’s mother.

Russell Haluapo got help from Aloha Kia Kauai, Darlene and John Baroni of Kauai Harley Davidson in hosting the annual Keiki Toy Run on Sunday.

“We know of several children who aren’t getting anything for Christmas,” said Deanne Yamaguchi, a volunteer.

Haluapo said the tradition has been going on for years.

“Where the rain is coming from, that’s where we’re heading to,” he said. “We’re riding into the rain.”

Several hundred motorcyclists braved blustery weather to drop off toys and leave with the convoy.

“This is all for the community,” said Rudy Notebo, who has been riding street bikes since 2005. “Motorcycle riders aren’t bad people at all.”
