HANAPEPE — Last week, an earthquake near the Solomon Islands triggered a tsunami watch here. The watch was short-lived, but served as a reminder that island residents need to be ready for disaster.
A free public presentation, “Preparing Yourself and Family for Natural Disasters,” will be offered Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Hanapepe Armory by the recently renamed Kauai Emergency Management Agency.
Bart Abbott, the agency’s plans and operations officer, will lead the presentation sponsored by the Hawaii Hazards Awareness and Resilience Program. He is responsible for county-level response plans for natural disasters and man-made hazards. He additionally coordinates functions with agencies and partner agencies.
