Janet Ballesteros
Janet Ballesteros of Hanamaulu passed away on Nov. 12, 2016, at the age of 53. She was born in Lihue on Jan. 1, 1963, and was an Administrative Assistant at Allied Machinery.
Preceded in death by her father, Alfredo R. Ballesteros.
Janet is survived by her two sons, Edward Roger Soares Jr. and Kevin Kaina Soares; 5 grandchildren, Austin Ramos-Soares, Asia Ramos-Soares, Alexis Ramos-Soares, Tehani Soares, Lilinoe Kilmer; mother, Marciana Ballesteros of Hanamaulu; siblings, Braulio (Priscilla) Ballesteros of California, Feli (Myles) Fujimura of Texas, Wele (Hyonchu) Estrada of Kauai, Alma (Kevin) Alexander of California, Mela (Kenneth) Santos of Kauai, Linda Amorin of California, Lettie (Tom) Ballesteros-Chambers of Arizona, Wilfred (Maile) Ballesteros of Kauai; boyfriend, Colin Braun of Hanamaulu; numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of Janet’s life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2016, at Lihue Lutheran Church with visitation from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and services celebrated at 11 a.m.

Charles Kenji Kawakami
Charles Kenji Kawakami of Lihue, Hawaii passed away at the age of 75 on Dec. 3, 2016, at his residence. Born on Oct. 22, 1941, in Waimea, Kauai, he was the President of Big Save and Menehune Food Mart Inc., a Veteran of the U.S. Army, and a former UH Regent and Chairman of the Hawai’i Food Industry Association.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Arlene Kashima Kawakami; father, H. S. Kawakami; mother, Tomo Nogami; brothers, George Kawakami, Edward Kawakami, and “Former Speaker of the State House of Representatives” Richard Kawakami; and sister, Emily Kawakami.
Charles is survived by his sons, Craig (Renee) Kawakami of Kauai, Douglas Kawakami of Kauai, and Derek (Monica) Kawakami of Kauai; dogs, Renoir and Bonchance; grandchildren, Chanel, Mari, Chase, Christopher, and Hailee Kawakami; great-grandchild, Niko Kawakami-Frias; sisters, Gertrude Toma, and Edith Tan; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Celebration of His Life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 10 , 2016, at the Lihue Christian Church. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. with services to follow.

Maximiano “Maxi” Galang Constantino of Hanamaulu passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Dec. 4, 2016, at the age of 57. He was born in San Juan, Alizia Isabela, Philippines on December 8, 1958, and retired as a chef from Oki Diner.
Preceded in death by his grandfather, Miguel Constantino; grandchildren, Brielle Constantino and Huaka’i Maxi Constantino-Puu;
Maxi is survived by his parents, Agelio and Lolita Constantino of Kaumakani; significant other, Camila Lagazo of Hanamaulu; son, Darrel (Sabrina) Constantino of Hawaii Island; daughters, Maxine (Kenneth) Kiyabu of Oahu, Roxana (Keola) Puu of Maui, Moana (Brandon) Constantino of Hawaii Island, Luana (Chris) Constantino of Hawaii Island, Tiana Constantino of Alaska; step-son, Mark Dave “Tun Tun” Lagazo; step-daughter, Faye Camille Lagazo of Hanamaulu; 20 grandchildren; brothers, Romulo (Edna) Constantino, Aurelio (Malou) Constantino; sisters, Erlinda (Rogerland) Dela Cruz, Aida (Frederico) Soriano, Criselda (Christopher) Duyanen; numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2016, at Immaculate Conception Church with viewing from 8 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Lihue Cemetery.

Hans Dieter Hellriegel
Hans Dieter Hellriegel of Kapaa passed away at home on Oct. 25, 2016, at the age of 71. He was born in Germany on Dec. 6, 1944, was a Vietnam Veteran, member of the Kapaa Lions Club and was the owner of Foto 1.
Preceded in death by his father, Dieter Hellriegel.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Hellriegel of Kapaa; sons, Kevin (Angie) Hellriegel of Seattle, Chris (Stephanie) Hellriegel of Tacoma; daughter, Monika Hellriegel of Seattle; mother, Otti Hellriegel of Waimea; 3 grandchildren; brother, Wolf (Gayle) Hellriegel; nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2016, at St. Catherine Church in Kapaa with visitation from 9 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m.

Takashi Matsumoto
Takashi Matsumoto passed away at the age of 94 on Dec. 3, 2016, at Kaua’i Veteran’s Memorial Hospital. Born on June 13, 1922, in Waimea, he was an U.S. Army Veteran and a Supply Specialist for PMRF.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Fumie Matsumoto; and survived by his sons, Bert (Lyndal Kennedy) Matsumoto of Lake Stevens, Washington, and Dean (Norma Aguiran) Matsumoto of Kalaheo, Hawai’i; daughters, Laura (Jason) Sakai of Mililani, Hawai’i, and Candice (Dickie) Shimoko of Honolulu, Hawai’i; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Gregory Eric Silva
Gregory Eric Silva of Kauai, Hawaii, passed away on Nov. 21, 2016, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 46. Born on June 28, 1970, in Lihue, Kauai, he worked in construction as a heavy equipment operator.
He is preceded in death by his two infant sisters; maternal grandfather, Mark N. Napolis; father, William G. Silva in 2008; and mother Dianne Napolis Rita in 2012.
Greg is survived by one daughter, Danielle Lika Tuiolosega; one son, Jeremiah Grayson Talai; and three grandchildren all of Alaska; five half-brothers, William Silva of Puhi, Gerald Silva of Wailua, Darold Silva of O’ahu, John Silva of Lawai, and Glen Silva of Hanalei; and two half-sisters, Jennifer DeCosta of Hawai’i and Gail Bukoski of Hawai’i. Also surviving lad closest to him are his maternal grandmother, Henrietta Napolis of Hanalei; Aunties, Doreen Henriques of Kalaheo, and Debra Johnston of Hanalei; friends, Donna of Hilo, Hawai’i and Dana Palmeira of Hanalei; Uncles, Dave Napolis and Dain Napolis, both of Hanalei; and other numerous aunties and uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2016, at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel in Lawai. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a Celebration of Life to follow at 11 a.m.
