Nine kayakers rescued on Wailua River, one missing

WAILUA – Nine people on a kayak tour were rescued Saturday evening on the Wailua River, while one person remains missing.

Eleven personnel from the Kauai Fire Department along with Air 1 and Medic 23 responded to the 5 p.m. rescue call. In addition, two staff members from the kayak company who weren’t on the tour responded to the scene.

After the nine victims were brought to safety, the rescue operation was suspended due to darkness setting in and hazardous flooding conditions.

The search for the missing person will resume tomorrow morning.

An update will be sent out when new information is received.
