World champion paddler Travis Grant will be heading a training clinic at 2 p.m. today at the Kukuiula Outrigger Canoe Club.
Grant previously won the 2013 and 2015 Molokai SUP Championship and the 2016 Molokai Solo OC-1 Championship.
“The SUP is stand-up paddle board, the solo stand-up race. And then the OC-1, which is the one-person canoe,” said event coordinator Luke Evslin. “Those are considered the world championships, and he’s won it in two different types of craft.”
The clinic will go for about an hour and is open to the public. Prior experience is not necessary, Evslin said.
“It will be about an hour on dry land, just talking about stroke and training. And then there will be a question-answer session afterwards,” Evslin said. “Then just for fun, we’ll go out and paddle for about an hour or so afterwards.”
There is no charge to attend. However, there is a suggested $10 donation to help cover Grant’s airfare. Those 18 years old and younger can attend for free.
