LIHUE — The annual Lights on Rice parade is tonight.
The parade, held the first Friday of December to usher in the holiday season, will boast 60 floats and 3,000 performers.
Festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. when the parade leaves Vidinha Stadium. It will head down Ho’olako and Rice streets before ending at the Historic County Building.
Rice Street will close at 5:30 p.m.
To alleviate traffic congestion, Kukui Grove Center is offering a free shuttle service from the mall to Rice Street from 4 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.
The shuttle leaves from the bus stop area near First Hawaiian Bank with drop-off at the First Hawaiian Bank, Lihue Branch. Return service from Rice Street back to Kukui Grove Center will be from 8 p.m. to 8:45.
The parade, hosted by the Rotary Club of Kauai, is not the only holiday party on Rice Street today. The Kauai Museum is hosting a Christmas Fair from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The Kauai Chorale will be performing throughout the day until the parade starts.
At 9 p.m., the Kukui Grove Shopping Center will unveil its Holiday Light show in front of Starbucks.
The palm tree avenue leading to Longs Drugs will be closed to vehicular traffic for the event, and motorists must use other entrances to the mall.
