At 95 years old, Barbara Kawakami recently released “Picture Bride Stories,” a result of oral interviews and follow-up research on these women who represent another variation of the American immigrant experience.
Kawakami and her “Picture Bride Stories” will be available when the Friends of the Hanapepe Public Library and the Yamaguchi and Fukuoka Kenjin Kai host an author talk story and book signing by the author, Dec. 3 from 11 a.m. to noon at the Hanapepe Public Library meeting room. A meet-the-author talk story session will follow from 1 to 2 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
In 2012, Kawakami was recognized as a Living Treasure of Hawaii by the Honpa Hongwanji Mission for her life accomplishments and contributions to the greater Hawaii community and heritage.
