‘Ohana Christian Fellowship holds ‘Day of Thanksgiving’

KAPAA — Genny Moura of Kapaa said her hair will be “perfect” for Christmas.

“I get a free haircut,” Moura said Sunday at the Kapaa Beach Park.. “Haircuts are expensive. Windy, she gave me her card for a discount, cut it in layers so it will grow out perfect for Christmas.”

Windy Kirifi was offering free haircuts on a first-come, first-serve basis at the ‘Ohana Christian Fellowship Day of Thanksgiving at the Kapaa Beach Park.

“I’ve been doing this service for all my life,” Kirifi said. “I’ve done this for the church for the past 14 years. Before that, I just did it on my own. I look forward to doing this every year.”

The Day of Thanksgiving offered free lunch, clothing, linen, household goods, music, worship, and fellowship for anyone on the Sunday leading to Thanksgiving.

Kimo Rosen with his dog Ivana, newly named following Donald Trump’s election to the presidency, was among the more than hundred people who gathered to enjoy Thanksgiving under a canopy of music, words of worship, and the talented Frank Bejo whose hands brought life to canvas against the backdrop of a sermon.

“This is really good,” Rosen said. “I got a free haircut, a free lunch, and music. In the past, they even had a hula show. This is really a good thing people are doing.”

Kawika Cutcher, delivering the pre-meal blessing, said ‘Ohana Christian Fellowship does the service twice a year, the next one being the Day of Hope coinciding with Easter.
