Veterans Day hoops tourney tips off Friday

The Kauai Lynx Basketball will host a Veterans Day Weekend basketball tournament starting at 1 p.m. Friday and continuing through Sunday afternoon.

Clarence Sales of the Kauai Lynx said the tournament will consist of two divisions — a 5th and 6th grade, and a 7th and 8th grade — at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.

Participating in the eighth-grade division, coach Gary Kidani will be bringing his Honolulu Sharks to tangle against Kaulupono, coached by Bobby Kamakele, Mix Plate with coach Luther Yam, the Kauai Ballers with coach Ronald Miura, and the LynxCon3, a mixed team made up of Kauai Lynx and Maui Con3 Jacks.

Teams in the sixth-grade division include the Mix Plate, Kaulupono, LynxCon3, and the Kauai Lynx 5th grade coached by Alex Cezar.

In addition to the tournament play, the LynxCon3 eighth-grade team and the Honolulu Sharks are scheduled for exhibition games against the Kapaa Warrior junior varsity team.

Championship games are scheduled for Sunday with the sixth-grade division tipping off at 1 p.m. and the eighth-grade division starting at 2 p.m.

Admission is free.
