James Tavares said his daughter goes to Waimea High School where they don’t have a student credit union. Tavares was the lucky field goal kicker who earned $250 for his bare-footed boot that split the uprights during the halftime of the KIF football game between Kauai and Kapaa high schools Saturday at Vidinha Stadium.
Bailey Bernabe from the Warrior Credit Union did the announcing (and distributing lucky number tickets at the gate), and the Kauai Chicken Hawk from the Raider Credit Union cheered Tavares’ effort.
Kudos to the Kapaa High School cheerleaders (the volleyball girls do it, too) for their support of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month by wearing their bright pink ribbons.
Kudos, too, to Coach Derek Borrero and his Red Raider football team for pulling off an upset over Kapaa.
Reggie McCabe said Reed Pagtolingan and the Junior Varsity Warriors pulled off an 8-6 win over Kauai High School to clinch the JV title.
Now, we wait for Tuesday when Coach Evan Costa and his volleyball girls travel to the Clem Gomes Gym for one of the biggest games of the year.
