Bicyclist injured after Kalaheo wreck

KALAHEO — A bicyclist sustained severe injuries Thursday after being involved in a car wreck at the intersection of Kuli Road and Kaumualii Highway.

A Dodge pickup truck was attempting to make a left turn from Kuli Road onto the highway about 8:40 a.m. when he reportedly struck a bicyclist traveling west on the highway, according to a preliminary report.

The driver of the truck, a 53-year-old Kalaheo man, was not injured.

The bicyclist, a 60-year-old man from Washington, sustained severe injuries and was transported by medics to Wilcox Hospital. He was then medevaced to Queen’s hospital on Oahu, where he remains.
