This week is Child Passenger Safety Week. Free car seat checks on Kauai will be conducted from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Walmart.
Hawaii’s child passenger restraint law requires children under 4 years of age to ride in a child safety seat, and those 4 through 7 years of age to ride either in a child safety seat or booster seat. Violators will face a fine of up to $500 and will be required to take a child passenger safety class.
The state’s four county police departments issued over 1,600 child restraint citations last year.
