KAPAA — Kai Norman, 12, led the trio of Swim Kauai Aquatics swimmers during the Mokihana Aquatics Fun Meet which wrapped up Sunday at the Kapaa Pool.
Norman finished the meet with three AAAA time standards, his best showing coming in the 100 freestyle where he touched the wall at 57.63 seconds, bettering his seeded swim of 58.26. He also posted an AAAA time in the 50 butterfly (28.83).
According to Hawaiian Swimming, the AAAA motivational cut has been added, representing the average 10th best time of a Hawaiian Swimming athlete in each event and age group over each of the last four years for both the short and long course.
Norman also posted AAA times in the 50 breaststroke (37.29), the 100 individual medley (1:10.04) and the 50 backstroke (32.60), bettering his seeded swim of 1:10.69 in the 100 IM.
Pulama Kaeo, 9, finished the two-day meet with AA time standards in the 100 freestyle (1:15.11), the 50 breaststroke (45.82), the 100 IM (1:30.57), and the 50 freestyle (34.80). She also finished with an A time standard in the 50 backstroke (43.21), bettering her seeded swim of 47.36. She finished perfect with improvements in all six of her swims.
Hayley-Jay Kaeo, 13, also posted improvements in her swims, touching the wall at 55.44 in the 100 freestyle to better her seeded swim of 58.84. She also posted improvements in the 100 butterfly, touching at 1:03.67 over her seeded time of 1:06.09.
Kaeo also improved in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.66) over her seeded 1:16.93, the 200 IM (2:23.77) over her seeded 2:26.76, the 100 backstroke (1:08.03) where she finished second only to Kaimi Matsumoto of the Maui Swim Club on a swim where she bettered her seeded swim of 1:08.19 by a breath.
Hayley-Jay rounded out her Fun Meet perfect, completing her improvements in the 50 freestyle where she touched at 25.72 over her seeded time of 26.99.
