KAPAA — The impending arrival of Tropical Storm Darby forced the postponement of the baseball game between the Kaneohe Majors All Stars and the Central Maui Majors All Stars Sunday at the Main Diamond at the Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Complex in Kapaa.
At stake, the winner of the matchup at the Hawaii State Little League State tournament advances to the championship game scheduled for Tuesday.
Earlier in the day, the Waipio Majors All Stars were sent home following its 6-4 loss at the hands of the Honolulu Majors All Stars.
After defeating Honolulu in the tournament’s opening game, Waipio suffered its first loss to Kaneohe Saturday. The loss to Honolulu is its second in the double elimination tournament and ends Waipio’s hopes for the state title.
League officials attempted to get the second game underway, but rains thwarted the effort after making the field unplayable with standing water on the base path between home plate and first base.
“We’re hoping the field will dry out enough to allow the game to continue,” a parent said. “It will be a double-header for someone.”
The winner of the Central Maui and Kaneohe match will advance to the title game scheduled for Tuesday morning. The loser will face Honolulu with the winner advancing to the title game.
