School days coming soon!

More than a thousand people surged through the Kukui Grove Shopping Center for the second Back to School Bash.

Through the generosity of community sponsors and individuals, more than 1,700 bags filled with school supplies were available for distribution to Kauai school students, said Stacie Chiba-Miguel of the Kukui Grove Center.

Live entertainment, a ballon sculpting station, and exhibits from community vendors punctuated the activity which overflowed to the Backpack Brigade collection site where Girl Scout Troop 823 with troop leader Teresa Caires donated five backpacks of school supplies, representing each of the scouts in the troop.

Kumu’s Cupboard got a strong start when shoppers dropped off supplies in the Subaru’s Fill the Subaru with school supplies.

School begins on Aug. 1 for most students in Kauai’s public schools.
