Kapaa Warriors surge past Lihue Lakers

KAPAA — Mone Malafu picked up the pace and sparked the Kapaa Warriors Division 4 boys to a 41-31 win over the Lihue Lakers Tuesday night during the summer basketball league games at Bernice Hundley Gym.

“We concentrate on the decorum of the game,” said Lakers coach Lenny Rapozo. “It’s about how the game is played. We don’t talk about winning, or losing through the entire season. Tonight, we played Laker basketball.”

Malafu was the top gun for Kapaa with his 16 points followed by CJ Vidinha adding eight points and Keaka Kauhane finishing with seven points.

Austin Renaud finished at the top of the Laker scoring at nine points followed by Sage Cua’s eight points. Ian Rapozo added six points and Kyean Fort finished with five points.

Earlier in the evening, the Team Lihue Division 4 boys wrapped up a 59-9 win over Westside behind 16 points from Justin Gummerus, 12 points from Bylake Braun, and eight points each from Elijah Lautej and Hans Carlos.

Xaerys Dela Cruz netted 15 points to lead the Kauai Thunder to its 43-37 edge over Papalina who got and equal 15 points from Jim Ehia.

No results were available from the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center site.

All games move to the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center Thursday when three games are scheduled starting at 6 p.m.
