Ocasio would make good rep
Mark Takai has unfortunately been forced to withdraw from the campaign as US representative for Congressional District 1. Our hopes and prayers are offered for his successful recovery.
Sadly, Hawaii now needs a new representative for CD1. One who will continue moving away from the past toward a brighter future that encompasses “the rest of us” so that everyone has the opportunity to achieve the American Dream. Someone who understands that there is more than enough wealth in America to ensure a good life for all Americans if it is wisely allocated to those issues and policies that Americans want, need and deserve.
Javier Ocasio is the candidate who has made the commitment to step into the void and take on the responsibilities of leading Hawaii to a new era of peace and understanding and commitment to one another.
Javier understands that “we are all in this together” and we either all will win or all will lose. Javier will address the problems we have in: Education, homelessness, healthcare, jobs, and the criminal justice system. Javier is a veteran who understands the problems veterans face. He has been there. He has done that.
While CD1 does not include Kauai, Kauai needs to support another candidate in Congress who understands the needs of Hawaii citizens. I strongly urge you to support Javier Ocasio, in any way you can to be that representative.

Do your job and protect Kauai
Stop allowing the destruction of Kauai! Do your job!
Immediately stop the extremely destructive dairy proposed for Kauai’s South Shore, Mahaulepu area. The scientific findings are conclusive, the damage to Kauai’s environment will be overwhelming. The facts are in, there is no reason to purposely allow this level of destruction.
Do your job! On May 27, 2016, this communication was sent via email to 12 County of Kauai and state of Hawaii appropriate government officials.

More roads, not more paths, needed
Though Tommy Noyes in his May 29 TGI article, “Walking, cycling, not more roads, key to easing traffic” appears to like biking and walking for exercise and recreational purposes — which is fine. But can he or any other person advocating that these forms of movement will in any way ease our traffic problems? Or, if either of these methods will be used by more than a fraction of the people to go shopping, to work, or for any other convenience that a vehicle will give them? In all honesty the answer has to be no! The vehicle in its present form, or in a driverless or yet to be discovered form is here to stay and we must plan and push for means to accommodate them.
For every biker or walker who use these means for “travel” there are a thousand vehicle users who will never abandon that car or truck for any other means of travel.
Maybe Mr Noyes didn’t see the Garden Island poll taken on March 18 that asked “What’s the best way to ease Kauai’s traffic troubles?” 688 people responded and 339 said to build more roads whereas 32 want to add more bike/pedestrian paths. Even if you expand this poll to the masses, the results are going to be the same.
And to try and make the case that the multi-use path will ever alleviate traffic is also a dream. In fact, as Joan Conrow once said in her blog, most people have to take their vehicle to get to the path and thus increase traffic congestion.
If we live with the fact that the vehicle is here to stay and we have to plan and accommodate for their use — wider and more alternate roads, we will improve the traffic congestion that now plagues us. And, again get us a county manager who will go after problems like this with solutions being his/her only goal — not politics!
