Roy Nishida (Lions District 50 Gov. Kelvin Moniz said Roy got the President’s Award, the second-highest award in Lionism, for 80 years of Lionism in Hawaii during the recent state convention!) said the American flag presented to the new Kauai Lions Club was flown over the nation’s capitol by Congressman Brian Schatz on behalf of the new club.
John Uyeno, former TGI publisher, said he was surprised to learn that OHA Trustee Dan Ahuna and himself were in the same California hospital when John went to visit his daughter who was having brain surgery. Ahuna presented the Hawaiian flag for the new club.
Congratulations to Stephanie Shinno (she’s going to be working on the upcoming credit union food drive, too!) on the first Lions Club on Kauai in 34 years!
Gary Pacheco had Bob Robertson to keep him from looking for pancakes at the Charter Night, and Basilio Fuertes was in good company with Charlie Ortiz and Donald Quon while they enjoyed the pupu (no pickle onions, here). Janice Bond (Dawnie Peralta is a Lion!) was at the Agency on Elderly Affairs Open House in conjunction with Older Americans Month, but still made it to the Charter Night.
