Lawrence Velez
Lawrence Velez of Lihue, Hawaii, born on March 28, 1957, passed away on April 11, 2016, at the age of 59. He was a Security Guard for G4S Secure Solutions and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Patricia L. Velez and Alfred B. Velez; brother-in-laws, Macky Pimental and Jason Caldeira Sr.
Lawrence is survived by his brother, Benny (Leslie) Velez of Hilo, Hawaii; sisters, Linda Pimental of Kalaheo, Kauai and Charlotte (Sonny F.) Caldeira of Kekaha, Kauai; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of his Life will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2016, at the Hanapepe Veteran’s Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. with services at 10 to 11 a.m.
The family requests casual attire.

Richard Merlin Link passed away at his home on April 23, 2016, at the age of 82. Born on Feb. 10, 1934, in Sidney, Ohio, he was a Budget Analyst with PMRF and a Marine Veteran.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence A. Link and Zenith I. Link
Richard is survived by his wife, Amelia E. Link; sons, Russell Link and Chris Link of Lihue; daughters, Terry (Franklin) Riopta of Hanamaulu, and Tammy (Raymond) Lopez of Tampa, Florida; eleven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins.
A Celebration of his Life will be held at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel in Lawai on Saturday, May 7, 2016. Visitation will be from 4 to 5 p.m. with services beginning at 5 p.m.
The family requests casual attire.

Philip M. Yamagata
Philip M. Yamagata of Kapaa, Hawaii passed away at home on March 15, 2016, at the age of 81. Born on Nov. 30, 1934, in Kapaa, he was an Army Veteran and the owner of Y. Yoshimura Store.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Yamagata; sisters, Edith (Hideo) Oride and Hanako Yamagata; and brother-in-law, Hisashi Unemori.
Philip is survived by his wife, Helene K. Yamagata; son, Randy K. Yamagata; daughter, Jeri L. Yamagata; sisters, Nancy Unemori, Janet (Isamu) Yoshishige, and Leatrice Tanaka; sister-in-law, Janet Yamagata; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Celebration of his Life will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2016, at the Kapaa Jodo Mission.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. with services to follow from 11 a.m. to noon.

Alexander Bagayan Dupitas
Alexander Bagayan Dupitas of Kekaha, passed away at the age of 60 on April 22, 2016, at Kauai Veteran’s Memorial Hospital. Born on Jan. 4, 1956, in Nipaco, Philippines, he was an Army veteran who worked at the Lawai Beach Resort as a night auditor.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Rosalina Bagayan Dupitas and Venancio Dupitas.
Alex is survived by his wife, Cora Dupitas; sisters, Rebecca (Promencio) Fernandez of the Philippines, Fely (Virgilio) Cacal of Kekaha, Melba (Boy) Manlapig of New Jersey, Yoly (Rudy) Barcelona of London, and Brenda (Benny) Velasco of Kekaha; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Wake services will be held at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel in Lawai on Friday, May 6, 2016, from 5 to 9 p.m.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2016, at Waimea Sacred Hearts Church.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. with Mass to follow.
The family requests casual attire and flowers are welcomed.

Mary Ann Mitsuyo Matsushige
Mary Ann Mitsuyo Matsushige of Lihue passed away at The Regency at Puakea on April 24, 2016, at the age of 102.
She was born in Nawiliwili, Kauai on Sept. 23, 1913, and retired as a Clerk with Big Save.
Preceded in death by four brothers, Seichi Matsushige, Tamezo Matsushige, Masaichi Matsushige, Haruyoshi Matsushige; two sisters, Ruth K. Fernandes and Kikumi Nakatsuka.
Mary Ann is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A private service was held with burial held at Kauai Memorial Gardens.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Matsushige family with arrangements.
Harriann ‘Annie’ E. Carvalho
Harriann “Annie” E. Carvalho of Kauai passed away in Peace in Wilcox Memorial Hospital on April 28, 2016, at the age of 50. She was born March 8, 1966 in Lihue, Kauai.
Harriann is survived by her son Harrison Rita of Kauai; brothers, Irvharc D. Carvalho of Washington, Rodglas G. Carvalho of Kauai; sisters, Delsa Starr Carvalho and Georgiann Carvalho; numerous nieces and nephews as well as a large hanai family from all over the world.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2016, at Anahola Beach Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Potluck was Annie’s favorite food so bring plenty.
The family request a donation be made to Kauai Food Bank as she was homeless.

Mary Jane Lake of Lihue, Kauai passed away at the age of 85, on April 29, 2016, in Lihue.
Born on Dec. 18, 1930, she was a retired nurses aide.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Silva; first husband, Arthur Fernandes; second husband, John K. Lake; sister, Gladys Ruth; and brothers, Raymond and Jerry Silva.
Mary Jane is survived by her sons, Douglas (Sheri) Lake of Georgia and Curtis Lake of Florida; daughters, Kathleen (Alan) Cruzada of Oregon, Noreen (Russell) Bardago of Wailua, Suzanne (Johnny) Caberto of Lihue, and Ramona Lake of Wailua; eleven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; brother, Ronald (Janet) Silva of Wailua; sisters, Ida (Bill) Porteous of California and Charlotte (Danny) Lum of California; and numerous aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Celebration of her Life will be held on Friday, May 6, 2016, at Holy Cross Church.
Visitation will be from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. with mass to follow.
Internment will take place at the Kauai Veteran’s Cemetery in Hanapepe.
