Congratulations to Carlos Ygov-Tapia, an eighth grade student at the Kapaa Middle School, on winning the softball throw at 185 feet during the Mayor’s Age Group Track and Field meet at Vidinha Stadium.
Bev Pang, the long term substitute art teacher, said Carlos also won the 2016 PTSA Let Your Imagination Fly art contest.
He submitted two pieces, and won first and second place at the regional competition.
The same two pieces also won first and second places at the state level competition, the first place entry advancing to the national level competition.
Julia Sanderl was the art teacher when Carlos created the artwork, but is now one of the school’s vice principals. She said they were notified that Carlos also ended up winning something at the national contest (PTSA website said final results will be posted after May 1).
Mariko Strickland Lum (early discount if you register for her soccer camp before May 1) had her hands full juggling student-athletes from the Kanuikapono Public Charter School (yes, even kindergarten teacher Sandra Naihe was there, although no orange scarf).
