Hawaii Food and Wine Festival has been the model and inspiration for the Jeju Food and Wine Festival which will be May 5-14 at Jeju Island, South Korea. Jeju and Hawaii are sister states and the event celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.
To commemorate the 30th year, Jeju Food and Wine Festival will kick off its inaugural year next month. Local chefs Alan Wong and Roy Yamaguchi, who both founded Hawaii Food and Wine Festival, are invited to Jeju along with Vikram Garg. Some other notable international chefs are Masaharu Morimoto, Ming Tsai, Todd English, Josiah Citrin, and 10 South Korean chefs.
Jeju Island is well noted for its diverse climate and abundance of seafood. There is a group of 20 (estimated) delegates made up of local politicians and businessmen who will go on a trade mission to South Korea making a stop at the Jeju Food and Wine Festival.
