Driver sought after fatal hit-and-run

LIHUE — Kauai police are searching for the driver of a dark-colored pickup truck that was involved in a hit-and-run crash Saturday night in Lihue, which resulted in a pedestrian fatality. 

The victim was a 48-year-old Wailua man. Police have not yet released the man’s identity. 

According to a preliminary investigation, the man was walking on Kapule Highway at approximately 10:30 p.m. when he was struck by the truck. He was transported to Wilcox Memorial Hospital, where he later died. 

Kapule Highway was closed in both directions, from approximately 10:30 p.m. to 2 a.m., to allow KPD’s Traffic Safety Section to conduct an on-scene investigation. 

The crash remains under police investigation.
