LIHUE — Kanani Fu has been appointed as the county’s new director of housing.
Fu left her position as the special assistant to the housing director and assumed her new position on March 1.
“Kanani served under the previous director and has the experience and drive to continue our mission to develop affordable homes for the people of Kauai,” said Mayor Bernard Carvalho, Jr. “She will be an incredible asset to the Housing Agency and we’re excited to hit the ground running.”
Fu was sworn in by County Clerk Jade Tanigawa on Tuesday.
“I am honored that Mayor Carvalho has afforded me this opportunity to continue the work of the Housing Agency,” Fu said. “We have an ambitious vision and I look forward to working with the administration, the County Council and the community to see these projects come to life.”
Among those projects will be Phase II of Kaniko’o senior housing in Lihue, the Koae workforce housing project in Poipu, and Lima Ola in ‘Ele‘ele.
Fu was born and raised on Kauai. She is a graduate of Kamehameha Schools Kapalama Campus. She received her undergraduate degree at Pacific University and a master’s degree at Hawaii Pacific University.
