ELEELE — An 18-foot boat carrying three male passengers and a dog capsized off Glass Beach in Eleele Saturday afternoon. None of the victims required medical attention.
The captain reported that when the new motor kicked in at approximately 2:30 p.m., it caused the boat to shift and fill with water.
The vessel, similar to a Boston Whaler, was heading out on a fishing trip when the incident occurred.
Firefighters from the Hanapepe fire station and two lifeguards on a jet ski from the Poipu tower responded to the scene. A Holo Holo Charters boat also provided assistance.
The jet ski shuttled the victims to the Holo Holo Charters boat. From there, the Holo Holo Charters boat brought them to the pier at Port Allen Harbor.
The jet ski then used the capsized boat’s anchor to secure the boat until the owner can arrange for salvage operations.
