KILAUEA – A home on Titcomb Street in Kilauea was damaged by fire early Thursday morning, displacing a family of three.
No injuries were reported.
Firefighters from the Hanalei Station were dispatched to the home at 4:58 a.m. and were joined by personnel from the Lihue station, Rescue 3 and the on-duty battalion chief. The blaze was fully extinguished shortly after 6 a.m.
The fire appears to have originated in one of the bedrooms in the single-story home. An adult male occupant and his seven-year-old grandson were home when the fire broke out and were able to escape without injury.
There was significant heat and smoke damage throughout the home. Fire inspectors estimate the fire caused roughly $150,000 in damages to the structure and its contents.
Volunteers with the American Red Cross are assisting the family.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
