Stefhen Longboy was the unanimous choice by the first-year culinary arts students Monday morning when Kauai Community College instructor Mark Oyama asked for someone to create an omelet.
“Where is Stefhen?” the group of students queried. “Stefhen! Stefhen! Stefhen!”
The first-year culinary arts students will be working at the omelet station when the American Culinary Federation, Kauai Chapter hosts its 30th annual ACF Breakfast on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14 from 7 to 11 a.m. at the Kauai Community College campus.
“The first-year students all have to work at the omelet station,” Oyama said. “They’ll be working alongside chefs from the resorts and other fine restaurants.”
Chef Martina Hildorfer of the Kauai Community College culinary arts department said all the chefs belong to the ACF, Kauai Chapter, and the chefs help prepare food for the event she describes as “the island’s biggest brunch” where, during last year’s event, more than 1,300 meals were served. Proceeds go toward equipment and supplies needed by the culinary arts students as well as other educational opportunities.
Patrons to the ACF breakfast can enjoy an all-you-can-eat menu including eggs benedict, scrambled eggs, Portuguese sausage, ham, steamed rice, hash browns, pancakes, pastries and the made-to-order omelets, washing everything down with Kauai Coffee, assorted Meadow Gold juices and milk and Kauai Springs water.
Duane Miyasato said there will be entertainment coordinated by Sarah Tochiki, Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School band director.
There will also be a student art sale and a pottery sale by ceramics students.
