Happy Camper for Jan. 15, 2016

Kudos to Penni Taketa and the Ae Kamalii Preschool on their great “Feed the Turkey” food drive!

The collection on Thursday put the Kauai Independent Food Bank ahead of its goals for the 2015 Holiday Food and Fund Drive, and Leona Perez (her daughter Isabel goes to Ae Kamalii) did a great job with Ron Wiley in telling the world, said Kelvin Moniz, the Kauai Independent Food Bank.

But Kelvin is also the Lions Club District Governor, and brought some pleasant information to Penni by giving her the name of Ashleigh Klein, the Project Vision Van Kauai community outreach coordinator. Penni said Ae Kamalii used to have vision screening, but the program stopped. If the Vision Van can arrange a stop, Kelvin said the preschool students can have free vision screening (also, the neighboring adult health day care) instead of having to wait until they get to the second grade.

Kelvin said Anne Chipchase of Ohana Health Plan, one of the movers for the Vision Van, is also one of the sponsors for the Lions District Convention which will be here and will be the first convention to be held in the new Hilton in Wailua.
