Happy Camper for Jan. 10, 2016

What is the newest flavor of Girl Scout cookies? Kudos to Shereen Hoopii and her Girl Scout “cookie captains” on hosting the Girl Scout Cookie Rally where the Scouts — especially the first-year Scouts — learned about the product along with the five skills.

Kehau Durante, the leader of Troop 849, Koloa, said she hasn’t been back to the Lihue Hongwanji since she was a student at the preschool. She already had information on the Koloa Community and Ohana Fun Day, Feb. 13 which is a fundraiser for the Koloa Elementary School fourth-grade class trip to the Big Island. Some of the sponsors for the event include Girl Scout Troop 849 helping with the festivities along with Niumalu Canoe Club, the Garden Angels, and Fun and Kwazy Rides. She said The Green Pig food truck has already committed to being there and is looking for more.

Congratulations to Rick Wright, a sports writer for the Albuquerque Journal who was notified Thursday of a national award he received. Rick was having coffee at the Kauai Marriott Resort and Beach Club while his wife Barbara (she dances for Larry Rivera while they are here) was practicing hula and admiring the practice monkey sand sculpture (created by Jeff Haigh of Auburn, California?) ahead of the Year of the Monkey which is coming up Feb. 8.
