Rudolpho ‘Rudy’ Ely Abara
Rudolpho “Rudy” Ely of Lihue passed away in Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Dec. 20, 2015, at the age of 65. He was born in Lihue on April 26, 1950, and was the proprietor of Rudy’s Pressure Washing Services.
Preceded in death by his father, Augustine Abara; sister, Evelyn Branco; niece, Caryn Abara.
Rudolpho is survived by his wife, Juanita Abara of Lihue; daughter, Jeannette (Shane) Markham of Puhi; sons, Rubin Abara of Lihue, Ryan Abara of Lihue; mother, Mary Abara of Lihue; sisters, Leonida (James) Cuaresma and Evangeline (Bob) Cuaresma, both of Kapaa; brothers, Orlando (Carol) Abara of Omao, William (Rochelle) Abara of Koloa; numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, Jan. 8, 2016, Kauai Veterans Center in Lihue with visitation from 9 a.m. and services celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.
Kauai Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the Abara family with arrangements.
Pamela Leimomi Kailikini Dow
With a true heart of a warrior, Pamela Leimomi Kailikini Dow, fought a long hard battle with cancer. She passed away surrounded by her family on Dec. 10, 2015 at the age of 63. Born on April 13, 1952, in Waimea, she along with her husband, Ernest, owned and operated Waimea Canyon General Store, Forever Kauai for 19 years in Kekaha.
Pam and Ernest were married for 24 wonderful years, and enjoyed traveling the world together, especially to their favorite “home away from home,” Las Vegas. True soul mates till the end, destiny took them on their final journey within days of each other.
“Aunty Pam” as she was lovingly known, was a true advocate for authentic Niihau shell leis.
Preceded in death by husband, Ernest Dow; parents, Abraham and Ermine Kailikini Sr., and brother, Abraham Jr.
Survived by sisters, Ruth Naumu and Cynthia Blair, step-children, Jim (Eileen), David (Jeanne) Dow, and Judy (Frank) Cano, numerous grandchildren, little muffins, family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2015, at Kailikini Residence, 5010 Awawa Rd. Hanapepe Valley. Visitation is from 2 to 3 p.m. with services to follow. Contact 335-5736.

Estanislao ‘Stanley’ Laysa Jr.
Estanislao “Stanley” Laysa Jr. of Kekaha, passed away at Kauai Care Center on Dec. 18, 2015, at the age of 68. Born on Feb. 3, 1947, in Waimea, Kauai. He was a retired sanitation worker for the County of Kauai.
He is preceded in death by his son, Estanislao “Stanley Boy” Laysa III; daughter, Juliana Laysa; parents, Estanislao Sr. and Hanako Kaneshiro Laysa; brother, Philip Laysa and sisters, Charlotte Evertsen and Grace Kaneshiro.
Stanley is survived by his son, Llewellyn Laysa of Oahu; daughter, Susan Mae Soto of Florida; four grandchildren, Justin Soto, Edward Soto, Stanley Laysa-Hill, and Christine Laysa; two great-grandchildren, Joziah Laysa-Trice and Blayze Laysa-Hill; brothers, Kenneth (Myong Suki) Kaneshiro of Georgia, Gary Laysa of New York, Patrick “BG” (Jayneen) Laysa of Kalaheo, Lincoln (Robyn) Laysa of Kalihi and Walter (Teodora) Laysa of Italy; sisters, Antonieta “Patsy” Gapasen of Kekaha, Janet Nishimura of Kaneohe, Lillian (Norbert) Walke of Ohio and Davida (Lewis) Heeder of Florida and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel in Lawai on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. with services at 11 a.m. Cremation will be followed.

Cindy Ann Peretti
Cindy Ann Peretti died peacefully, surrounded by loved ones in Boulder City, Nevada on Dec. 15, 2015, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Cynthia Ann Dougherty was born on Nov. 11, 1962, in Cherry Hill, NJ. She was a fifth grade teacher at Kapaa Elementary School on Kauai, receiving her Masters degree in Education in 2006.
She is survived by her parents, Michael Dougherty, Jr. and Doris Dougherty; loving daughters, Sonya Marie Peretti and Shanna Ray Peretti; brother, Michael Dougherty III, his wife, Elizabeth and their children Michael IV and Jonathan; sister, Donna Williams and her son, Marvin; and her longtime companion, Brad Foster.
Cindy will be dearly missed by the many people whose lives she touched with her kind and loving heart. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Golden Living Care Center in Rochester, MN and at Mountain View Care Center in Boulder City, NV for providing so much comfort to Cindy in her final years.
A service was held on Dec. 28, 2015, at MVCC, and a Celebration of Life will take place on Kauai at a date to be determined. Donations to a charity of your choice in her memory would be appreciated.
Jennifer Lei Victorino
Jennifer Lei Victorino, 60, of Omao, Kauai, passed away on Dec. 24, 2015, surrounded by family and loved ones. Born in Lihue, Kauai on Jan. 22, 1955, Jenni attended and graduated from Kapaa High School and Kauai Community College. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Phoenix.
Jenni spent over 30 years caring for others in the field of nursing. Over her career, she worked for G.N. Wilcox Memorial Hospital, Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital, Hale Omao Nursing Home, Hale Kupuna Heritage Home, and Kauai Care Center. As a testament of her dedication, she received the Lifetime Achievement Award in Nursing on Dec. 1, 2015, from Kauai Care Center, Hale Omao Nursing Home and Hale Kupuna Heritage Home. Outside of her work, Jenni enjoyed spending time with family, gathering shells from every beach she visited, gardening, and fishing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Beatrice Victorino, and is survived by her six sisters and one brother: Sharon Chang of Ewa Beach, Oahu; Yvonne Borges of Kapaa, Kauai; Carol (Solomon) Lovell of Anahola, Kauai; Eileen Victorino of Kapaa, Kauai; Evelyn (Alfred) Levinthol of Kapaa, Kauai; Irene (Miles) Yoshida of Kapaa, Kauai; William Victorino, III of Kapaa, Kauai; her former spouse, Thomas James Texeira of Waimea, Kauai; her daughter Kalea (Jill) Texeira of Washington, DC; her two sons Koma (Michelle) Texeira of Hilo, Hawaii, and Kea (Napua Beniamina) Texeira of Waimea, Kauai; and five grandchildren Kaikoa, Koma, Victoria, Kanaloa, and Keala; and beloved friend, Mei Ling Aranio.
The Celebration of Life service for Jenni Victorino will be held on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016, at 9 a.m. at Anahola Beach Park. Eusabia Leones Silva
Eusabia Leones Silva, 89, of Lihue, Kauai, passed away on Dec. 13, 2015, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital. She was born on July 21, 1926, in the Philippines, she was a homemaker.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Harry G. Silva; her three sons, Romea, Ricardo and Rostico Pigao.
She is survived by her sister, Maria Astrologia; four daughters, Elma (Rudy) Gamata, Rolita (Edwin) Balbao, Susan (Steve) Castonguay and Lilibeth (Sam) Trinidad; two sons, Carlito (Nancie) Pigao and Wilbert (Melody) Pigao, 32 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016, at Immaculate Conception Church from 8 to 9:45 a.m. Where Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.

Geraldine King Tam
Born to Lee King and Chen Hong Yee in Toronto, Canada, on Nov. 14, 1920, Geraldine was the eldest of seven. She passed away on Dec. 21, 2015.
Geraldine was valedictorian of her high school class in Burlington, Ontario, and attended McMaster University on a four year scholarship. She was the first Chinese woman high school teacher in Ontario and taught art, latin and english. She met her husband, Reuben Tam at Columbia University while completing her MA. For 32 years they lived in New York City where they played an active part of the dynamic art scene of the time. Geraldine taught art at Dalton School and summered at their cottage in Monhegan, Maine where she painted, eventually focusing on the wildflowers of Maine. On retirement, Reuben and Geraldine moved to Kauai, Reuben’s birthplace.
Reuben continued to paint while Geraldine, initially overwhelmed by the exotic lushness of Hawaii’s flora, started to seriously venture into the world of botanical art, harmonizing scientific objectivity with artistic vision.
Geraldine’s work has been shown at the Kauai Museum, Bishop Museum and the Honolulu Academy of Arts in Honolulu and on the Mainland, and in 1998 she published “Paradisus: Hawaiian Plant Watercolors.”In 1995, Geraldine was honored as a Kauai Museum Living Treasure. Until late in life, Geraldine was a vital member of the local arts community and an avid supporter of arts education for all.
She died peacefully at home, survived by siblings, Elizabeth Quan and George King; sisters-in-law, Florence King and Norma King and brother in-law, Walter Wong and 14 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Reuben; her parents; siblings, Lily King, Peter King, Etta Wong and John King; brothers in-law, George M. King and Bruce Quan and sister in-law, Lillian Chang King.
A celebration of Geraldine’s life will take place at the headquarters of National Tropical Botanical Garden at the end of Papalina Road in Kalaheo on Sunday, Jan. 10, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Geraldine’s memory can be made to the National Tropical Botanical Garden to support botanical art and illustration.
Patrick ‘Paleka’ Nani Kaua’i Lazaro
Patrick “Paleka” Nani Kaua’i Lazaro passed away at home on Dec. 29, 2015, at the age of 67. Born on Sept. 7, 1948, in Waimea, Kauai, he was a security guard with PMRF, maintenance supervisor with the State of Hawaii and a well known bus driver on Kauai.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth and Damiano Lazaro; brothers, Andrew Bla Lazaro and Damiano “Gundy” Lazaro; brother-in-law, Ski Wisneski; sister-in-laws, Althea Lazaro, Caroline Ho’opi’i, and Ethel Dela Cruz; grand-daughter, Cierra Slobig; and great-grandson, Dante Scott.
Paleka is survived by his wife, Sunny Brown-Lazaro; son, Patrick Lazaro Jr. of Kekaha; six daughters, DeeAnn (Tom) Slobig of Zilla, Washington, Akala (Bryan) Aiwohi of Wailua; Shentel Sarmiento of Waimea, Marla Medeiros of Hanamaulu, Tasha Lazaro of Kekaha, and Brenda Lazaro of Kekaha; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Sonny Ho’opi’i of Kekaha, Walter (Nancy) Dela Cruz of Maui, and Antone (Hilda) Lazaro of Eleele; sisters, Peggy Wisneski of Kekaha, Barbara (Chico) Frasco of Kekaha, and Mercy Lazaro of Kekaha; sister-in-law, Cecilia Lazaro of Kekaha; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Celebration of Paleka’s Life will be held at Mac Arthur’s Park in Kekaha on Friday, Jan. 8, 2016. Friends may visit with the family at 1 p.m. with services at 3 p.m. and scattering of his ashes will be followed fronting St. Theresa Church out at sea.
The family suggests casual attire and flowers are welcomed.

Ellen Yin Tai Chun Burgess
Ellen Yin Tai Chun Burgess, born in Honolulu, Hawaii, of Kailua, who was a retiree of the State and a lei maker, passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Dec. 26, 2015, at the age of 89.
She is survived by her daughters, Joanna Keahi Yates and Puanani Carvalho; son, Alvin “Tutue Boy” Keahi; brother, Benjamin Chun and sister, Elfrieda Tsukayama.
A Celebration of Ellen’s Life will be held on Jan. 8, 2016, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Oahu Country Club, dress code required.
Flowers are welcomed.

Lucile Namiko Horita
Lucile Namiko Horita of Lawai passed away at home on Dec. 29, 2015, at the age of 71. Born on Oct. 27, 1944, in Hanapepe, Kauai, she was a PSAP Aide with Wilcox Elementary School.
She is survived by her husband, Edwin Mamoru Horita; mother, Mrs. Mikiko Muraoka; brothers, Calvin (Jane) Muraoka of Kauai and Leighton (Lisa) Muraoka of Kauai; sisters, Brenda Honda of Kauai and Sheila (Gerry) Tamura of Hilo and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Memorial services will be held at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel in Lawai on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. with services to follow at 4 p.m.
The family suggests casual attire and will be graciously declining flowers.
