Mary Kaliko Thronas
Mary Kaliko Thronas, lovingly known as “Aunty Mary” was born on September 13, 1931 in Honolulu, Hawaii. She passed away peacefully at home on December 5, 2015 at the age of 84.
She is preceded in death by her husband Samuel K. Thronas Sr., mother Margaret Kuewa Kilia Risner, father Clifford Risner and sister Lorraine Silvera.
Mary became Chief flight attendant for Aloha Airlines and training instructor. She was the last surviving of the original 4 flight attendants for Aloha Airlines.
Mary played an integral part in the rise of the Democratic Party as a convention delegate since 1961. On November 1, 1970, she was appointed as the governor’s liason to the County of Kauai by the late Governor John A Burns. She continued to serve as the governor’s liaison for Governor George Ariyoshi and Governer John Waihee.
She also served as Chairwoman for the Kauai County Council.
Mary was involved with many organizations and received many community awards. Most recently she was honored by the Zonta Club of Kauai as an Outstanding Leader and Volunteer for 41 years and as a Living Treasure in 2014 by the Kauai Museum.
Mary served on the Board of Directors as an Officer as well as a member of the Stanford Hospital Foundation, the Wilcox Foundation, Kauai Economic Opportunity, Incorporated, St. Catherine’s Church Council Building Fund, The Zonta Club of Kauai Foundation, and Tip Top Motel & Café among others.
She is survived by her children, George (Darlene) Thronas, Samuel Jr. (Iris) Thronas, Earl Thronas and Charmane (Audie) Thronas, sisters Bridget (Paul) Cafferty, Catherine Dyer Bassle (George), brother Thomas (Chris) Risner and brother and sister-in-law Henry and Renee Thronas and many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Memorial Services will be held on Dec. 26, 2015 at St. Catherine’s Church at 5021 Kawaihau Road, Kapaa. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. with Memorial mass to follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be private.
Arrangements will be handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Clyde Conrad Edayan
Clyde Conrad Edayan, 52, passed away on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at the Aloha Nursing and Rehab Centre in Kaneohe. Born in Waimea, he grew up in Kalaheo & attended Kauai High School.
He is preceded by his mom, Sally Eufemia Ceballos, and is survived by father, Conrado Edayan; brother, Leonard Edayan, and sister Cynthia Waters.

Pamela Leimomi Kailikini Dow, born April 13, 1952 passed away surrounded by her family on Dec. 10, 2015.
Preceded in death by husband Ernest Dow, parents Abraham and Ermine Kailikini Sr., and brother Abraham Kailikini Jr.
Survived by sisters Ruth Naumu and Cynthia Blair, Step-Children Jim (Eileen) , David (Jeanne) Dow, and Judy (Frank) Cano.

Dane Kurihara
Dane Yoshio Kurihara, 61 of Kapaa died on Dec. 8, 2015.
He was born in Honolulu on Feb. 3, 1954 and grew up in Kona. He was a retired auto mechanic with a passion for Chevrolet Camaros.
He was preceded by his parents, Nora Matsuno Kurihara and Larry Y. Kurihara.
Dane is survived by his daughter Nicole; hanai brother Wayne Kalani Slater; hanai sister May Mariani; and the communities of Friendship House and Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital.
A memorial will be held at Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital on Wednesday December 30, 2015 at 9:30 a.m.
Joseph Richard Brun
Joseph Richard Brun of Koloa passed away at home on December 19, 2015, at the age of 84. He was born in Eleele, Kauai on September 18, 1931, and was a Korean War Veteran of the United States Army. Joe retired as a Director with United Public Workers Union and the State of Hawaii.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Josephine Brun Sr.; sister, Elizabeth Denzer and brother, Manuel Brun Jr.
Joseph is survived by his wife of 56 years, Martina “Tina” Brun; sons, Peter (Joanne) Brun of Omao, Paul Brun of Koloa; daughter, Polly (Ryan) Lee of Lihue, Penny Vess of Lihue, Patti “Peejay” (Christie) Brun of Hawaii Big Island; hanai daughter, Jennifer Hurt; six grandchildren, Tina (Neri) Mungia, Tasha Martinez, Tedi (Nicolas) Bunch, Dawn Vess, Kayla (Kaniela) Matsushima, Autumn Lee; 2 great-grandsons, Jude Martinez, Larkin Bunch; 4 step-grandchildren, 14 step great-grandchildren; sisters, Beatrice Canno of Texas, Margaret Routt of Louisiana; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at St. Raphael’s Church with viewing from 8 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Veterans Cemetery.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Brun family with arrangements.
