Roy Iwao Morimoto
Roy Iwao Morimoto of Waimea passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on December 3, 2015 at the age of 70. Born on April 15, 1945 in Waimea, he was a laborer with the County of Kauai.
He is preceded in death by his father, Kazuyoshi Morimoto; mother, Harue Morimoto; and brother, Alan Morimoto.
Roy was survived by his wife, Sharlene Morimoto; son, Kyle Morimoto of Waimea; daughter, Tisha (Bryson) Kurokawa of Waimea; two grandchildren, Kekai Morimoto and Rory Kurokawa; brothers, Robert (Florence) Morimoto of Honolulu, Jerry (Susan) Morimoto of Kekaha, Glenn (Cheryl) Morimoto of Kekaha; sisters, Janet (Keiji) Kukino of Honolulu and Leatrice Tanaka of Lihue; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Celebration of Roy’s Life will be held at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel in Lawai on Saturday, December 12, 2015. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. with services at 5 p.m.
The family suggests casual attire and flowers are welcomed.

Mary Kaliko Thronas
Mary Kaliko Thronas, lovingly known as “Aunty Mary” was born on September 13, 1931 in Honolulu, Hawaii. She passed away peacefully at home on December 5, 2015 at the age of 84.
She is preceded in death by her husband Samuel K. Thronas Sr., mother Margaret Kuewa Kilia Risner, father Clifford Risner and sister Lorraine Silvera.
Mary became Chief flight attendant for Aloha Airlines and training instructor. She was the last surviving of the original 4 flight attendants for Aloha Airlines.
Mary played an integral part in the rise of the Democratic Party as a convention delegate since 1961. On November 1, 1970, she was appointed as the Govenor’s Liason to the County of Kauai by the late Governor George Ariyoshi and Governer John Waihee.
She also served as Chairwoman for the Kauai County Council.
Mary was involved with many organizations and received many community awards. Most recently she was honored by the Zonta Club of Kauai as an Outstanding Leader and Volunteer for 41 years and as a Living Treasure in 2014 by the Kauai Museum.
Mary served on the Board of Directors as an Officer as well as a member of the Stanford Hospital Foundation, the Wilcox Foundation, Kauai Economic Opportunity, Incorporated, St. Catherine’s Church Council Building Fund, The Zonta Club of Kauai Foundation, and Tip Top Motel & Café among others.
She is survived by her children, George (Darlene) Thronas, Samuel Jr. (Iris) Thronas, Earl Thronas and Charmane (Audie), sisters Bridget (Paul) Cafferty, Catherine Dyer Bassle (George), brother Thomas (Chris) Risner and brother and sister-in-law Henry Renee Thronas and many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Memorial Services will be held on Dec. 26, 2015 at St. Catherine’s Church at 5021 Kawaihau Road, Kapaa. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. with Memorial mass to follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be private. Arrangements will be handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Gladys Toshiko Nagata
Gladys Toshiko Nagata of Kalaheo passed away at the age of 84 on December 4, 2015. She retired as a dental assistant for Dr. C. Taba’s and Dr. P. Hamamoto’s Dentistry.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Isamu Nagata of Kalaheo; son, Nathan Nagata of Hanapepe; daughter, Natalie (Gary) Umipeg of Fairfield, California; and five grandchildren, Brandon Umipeg, Kiani Nagata, Andrew Umipeg, Sienna Nagata and Trinity Nagata.
Private services will be held at a later date and the family requests no koden.
