At 6 p.m. on a recent Monday, she headed to McDonald’s for a hash brown and sausage McMuffin, something she wouldn’t have been able to order for dinner prior to Oct. 6, when Hawaii’s McDonald’s restaurants started serving breakfast around the clock.
All-day breakfast has been the number one request from customers, according to the famous fast food chain. In fact, more than 120,000 people tweeted McDonald’s asking for breakfast throughout the day in the past year alone, the company said.
“I love breakfast,” said Goldstein, 16, of Lihue, flashing a big smile as she unwrapped her sausage McMuffin at the McDonald’s on Kuhio Highway in Lihue. “I like it better than their regular menu.”
In the first month of the all-day breakfast launch, Goldstein said she has taken advantage of McDonald’s new breakfast for dinner option twice.
In addition to McMuffin sandwiches and hash browns, the new all-day breakfast men includes hotcakes, sausage burritos, fruit and yogurt parfaits and fruit and maple oatmeal.
“We are thrilled about the October launch of all-day breakfast,” said Melanie Okazaki, McDonald’s Restaurants of Hawaii regional marketing manager. “We are always listening to our customers and know there is a high demand for McDonald’s breakfast items at all hours of the day. We look forward to offering our most popular breakfast menu items to our customers morning, noon and night.”
At McDonald’s Lihue location, restaurant co-owner Darlene Chung said the sausage burrito has been the most popular breakfast menu item so far.
For $2.99, customers can get two sausage burritoes, hash browns and a drink.
“All the people I’ve talked to, they’re happy with it,” Chung said. “People like breakfast. They’re happy they can order it anytime of the day. It’s a great thing because I love the breakfast sandwich, sometimes in the evening. The people got what they wanted.”
McDonald’s on island can be found in Lihue on Kuhio Highway, in Kukui Grove Shopping Center, in Walmart, Kapaa on Kuhio Highway and Eleele on Waialo Road.
