LIHUE — Four juveniles were tracked down by police after they assaulted two people at a beach Tuesday afternoon.
The teens approached a 24-year-old Lihue man and a 21-year-old California woman at Ninini Beach, also known as Running Waters, about 2:30 p.m., a county press release said.
The man and woman reported that the teens assaulted the man and stole a bag belonging to the woman before fleeing the scene.
The victims requested help from bystanders near the Kauai Lagoons golf course, said county spokeswoman Sarah Blane. KPD officers found one teen near the hotel pool and the other suspects were caught near Kalapaki Beach trying to run away, Blane said.
All four teens were taken to the Lihue police station for questioning. Two brothers, ages 15 and 17, were released to their parents. The other teens, also brothers, ages 15, were detained for second-degree robbery.
The Lihue man suffered a laceration above his eye and was treated and released by medics at the scene.
The suspects have not been formally charged, said prosecuting attorney Justin Kollar.
“We are awaiting receipt of the police investigation; we expect that will happen shortly,” he said.
An investigation continues.
