LIHUE — The county’s islandwide resurfacing project for this fiscal year will begin Monday and is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Grace Pacific was awarded a $1.9 million contract for the project, which will start in the Kawaihau District. Among the streets that are slated for resurfacing in the Hulu Manu Subdivision are Kahala, Kualono, Kuapapa, Kualono, Kumole and Luana streets as well as Kahi Road.
From there, the contractor will move to Puhi where Hanahao Place, Haleukana Street and Hanalima Road, as well as a portion of Puhi Road, from Kaneka Street to Hanalima Road, will be resurfaced.
Also included in the project scope are Maka Road in Kalaheo and Piko Road in Lawai.
Another Public Works project on the horizon is phase one of the Puhi Road Rehabilitation project, which will span from Kaumualii Highway to Kaneka Street. The roadway will be completely reconstructed using Portland Cement Concrete to better support heavy truck traffic. Other improvements include sidewalks and bike lanes as well as drainage improvements.
The yearlong project is scheduled to start in January.
