Da Shadow’s Corner: Vidinha Stadium

Editor’s note: Old-timers might still remember the introduction from The Shadow radio program: “Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? Vidinha Stadium

What is the update on the Vidinha Stadium complex? How much will it cost?

Parks recently awarded a lighting construction contract to Paul’s Electrical and part of their scope includes installing a new lighting system at the Vidinha Stadium baseball field and lighting replacement in the parking lot. Contract amount for this work is $863,000. Notice to Proceed will be issued by September 2015. Parks is also working on a project for Vidinha Stadium baseball field improvements. The scope includes but is not limited to a new announcer booth, dugouts, fencing and ADA accessibility improvements. Parks hopes to have this project ready to go out to bid by December. The budget for this project is $900,000.

Hanapepe Sports Complex

What is the status of the Hanapepe Sports Complex?

Parks awarded a construction project to Cushnie Construction Company and their scope includes removal of wooden bleachers and installation of new aluminum stadium bleachers and announcers booth. The contract amount $1.6 million. Notice to Proceed will be issued by September 2015.

Kilauea Gym

The bid for Kilauea Gym repairs states “resealing.” Is this not a “re-roofing” project? Is this project a temporary fix or a permanent fix to the leaking roof?

The Kilauea Gym Improvements project is not a “re-roofing” project, however, it is intended to be a permanent solution to the leaking. The scope of work for this project was based on recommendations from the consultant.

Anne Knudsen

What is the status of Anne Knudsen Park pedestrian bridge?

Public Works is managing this construction project which was awarded to Kaikor Construction. Demo work was completed in July 2015. Currently, the contractor is having the new pedestrian bridge manufactured. Estimated time of arrival for new bridge is anticipated in November 2015, at which time construction will re-commence.
