LIHUE — Parking or stopping on Hardy Street will no longer be permitted between the roundabout at Umi Street and the first driveway leading to the front of Wilcox Elementary School.
The changes are because of the opening of the Hardy/Umi Street roundabout and other Hardy Street improvements.
The first day of school is today.
Those dropping off or picking up students are encouraged to use the drop-off/pick-up area at the cafeteria on Umi Street.
Those who wish to use the drop-off/pick-up area in front of the school should enter by coming up Hardy Street from Rice Street and turning left from Hardy Street into the school driveway. There is a new dedicated left-turn lane for this driveway.
A new drop-off/pick-up area has been designated by the County of Kauai at the Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall.
To use this new drop-off/pick-up area, drivers should enter the conventional hall parking lot at the driveway near the tennis courts, drop students off adjacent to the walkway to the rear of the school, and exit at the driveway closest to Rice Street.
