Medicare 50th anniversary Thursday
LIHUE — Kauai will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Medicare at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Lihue Civic Center, Moikeha Building courtyard area.
Mayor Bernard Carvalho, Jr. will read a proclamation about the program for senior health that was signed into law by President Lyndon Johnson on July 30, 1965.
Afterward, a party with cake, games and leis will celebrate the milestone.
It is free and open to the public
