Due to heavy rainfall and the potential for flash flooding the DLNR Division of State Parks has closed the Kalalau Trail at 11:30 a.m. today to all hikers.
It will remain closed for the rest of the day. Anyone already on the trail is advised to not cross flooded streams and remain on high ground until flooding has subsided.
State Parks staff will re-evaluate trail conditions early tomorrow morning and will decide at that time whether the trail will be reopened.
Closure and reopening announcements are posted on the State Parks website at http://dlnr.hawaii.gov/dsp/
