LIHUE — The Solid Waste Division will begin delivery of 64-gallon refuse carts next month to existing customers who elected to exchange their 96-gallon carts for the smaller size.
About 5,000 residents in Puhi, Lihue, Hanamaulu, Wailua, Kapaa and Anahola with automated trash collection opted to make the change.
Due to the large volume, the exchange process will start in July and take approximately three months to complete.
The new carts will be delivered on or shortly after a refuse collection day. Upon receipt, customers should use their new carts immediately, and empty and wash and rinse their old ones. The old carts should then be placed upside down in an area where county personnel can easily retrieve them.
