Agnes Remoaldo Carey, 93, died on Aug. 4, 2014. Born in Kilauea and raised in Eleele, “Aggie” graduated from Waimea High School in 1939.
She spent her early years under the loving care of her parents, Mary Correia and Manuel Remoaldo, enjoying plantation life and adventures with her siblings David, Helen and Josephine, many cousins, and friends. She moved to Oahu and had a long career in nursing and community mental health services.
Agnes was loved and respected for offering care and shelter to many in need. She left Kauai early in life but carried the island’s spirit with her always.
She is survived by her sister Josephine, sister-in-law Margaret, her children Jeff, Bob, Mike, Lynn and Jon, grandchildren and great-grand children.
A remembrance Mass will be held June 27 at Sacred Heart Church in Eleele followed by a reception in Hanapepe. Please contact a family member to RSVP.
Michael Bernard Helppie of Koloa passed away in Wilcox Memorial Hospital on June 1, 2015, at the age of 37. He was born in San Jose, California, on Feb. 10, 1978, and was employed as a waiter with Waiohai Honu Bar and Plantation Gardens Restaurant.
He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Velma and Bernard Helppie.
Michael is survived by his father, Michael Helppie of Idaho; mother, Karen (Rocky) Reynolds of Koloa; step-mother, Mary Helppie of Idaho; son, Maverick Helppie, girlfriend and mother of Maverick, Kara Domingcil of Koloa; sisters, Sharlene Helppie of Honolulu, Jayme Malloy Crockett of Idaho; brother, Ryan Malloy of Idaho; maternal grandparents, Bill and Sue Powell of Arizona; hanai parents, Cynthia Ellis of Koloa and Mel Domingcil of Kapaa; numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial paddle-out will be announced at a later date.

Lonnie and Patricia Tiner
Lonnie Walter Tiner, 80 and Patricia Lucille Aqui Tiner, 76, of Twentynine Palms, California, passed away in Palm Springs on May 18, 2015, as the result of a motor vehicle accident.
Lonnie Walter Tiner was the son of Joseph and Hallie Tiner, born Aug. 11, 1934, in Hemet.
Patricia Lucille Aqui Tiner was the daughter of Lamberto and Francisca Aqui, born Nov. 29, 1938, in Lihue, Hawaii.
Lonnie Walter Tiner, a veteran of the United States Air Force, was an oral and maxillofacial surgeon for 45 years. Patricia Lucille Tiner was a registered nurse, a real estate broker and most recently an office manager for her husband’s practice.
They were preceded in death by their parents, Joseph and Hallie Tiner and Lamberto and Francisca Aqui and brothers Bob Tiner and Christopher Aqui.
They are survived by brother Lamberto Aqui Jr., sister, Corinne Peterson, sons Christopher Tiner, David Tiner and Joseph Tiner, daughter Deborah Robell and eight grandchildren.
A celebration of their life will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at St. Catherine Church in Kapaa with visitation from 8 a.m. to 10 and Mass celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be held at St. Catherine Cemetery in Kealia following the Mass.
Kauai Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home will assist the Tiner family with arrangements.
Yvonne Boiser Kaialoa
October 18, 1940 — June 4, 2015
Yvonne, a resident of Fairfield, California, died peacefully at Kaiser Medical Center, Vacaville, California, surrounded by her loving family.
Yvonne grew up on the Island of Kauai and was a graduate of Kauai High School. She was a very proud Wells Fargo Bank employee. She retired as a member of the California Wells Fargo Foundation and Wells Team Staff.
Yvonne was a vibrant and beautiful woman. She was also proud of her bit part, many years ago, in the movie “South Pacific.” She loved the San Francisco 49ers and Giants.
Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents, George and Theresa Boiser, and sister, Marveline Funes Relacion, all of Kauai.
Yvonne is survived by daughter Yvette Carreiro (Joe), sons Troy (Geri) Kaialoa and Shayne (Catherine, CJ) Kaialoa, all of California, by sister Georgiana Boiser Nunes of Wailua, Kauai and brothers Vincent (Slinko) Boiser of Kapaa, Kauai and Gilbert Funes of San Francisco, California, and uncle, Charles Monroid, a resident of Arizona, 4 grandchildren, and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. She is also survived by former husband, Jerry Kaialoa of Kapaa, Kauai.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on June 17, 2015, at Saint Dunstan’s Catholic Church, 1133 Broadway Ave., Millbrae, CA 94030. Reception will follow at the Basque Cultural Center, 599 Railroad Ave., South San Francisco, CA.
Hiroshi Murashige of Lihue passed away at home on June 10, 2015, at the age of 96.
He was born in Hanamaulu, Kauai, on Oct. 30, 1918, and retired from the County of Kauai as the Chief Building Inspector.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Murashige; brothers, Fred and Les and daughter-in-law, Stacy Nishina.
He is survived by two sons, Brian (Sandy) Murashige and Les Murashige; one grandson, and one great-grandson; nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2015, at Lihue Christian Church with visitation from 10 a.m. and services celebrated at 11 a.m.
Family suggests aloha attire and graciously declines flowers and koden.

Hazel Matsuno Tsugawa
Hazel Matsuno Tsugawa passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2015, at Wilcox Hospital, Lihue, Hawaii, at the age of 96. Hazel was born on Aug. 15, 1918, in Kohala, Hawaii. She was a seamstress, waitress and housewife.
Hazel is preceded in death by her husband, Seichi Tsugawa, brothers and sisters, Minoru (Kimiko) Yamada, Kiyomu Stanley (Sugiko) Yamada, Hatsue (Yoichiro) Watanabe, Isami (Tetsuo) Kihara, Tsutomu Richard (Alice) Yamada, Edna Shigeno (David) Kuba, Yasuno Ethel (Walter) Yamada, and Herbert Osamu (Catherine) Yamada.
She is survived by her daughter Harriet Haruyo (Ronald) Ching of Torrance, California, son Richard Kaichi (Nancy) Tsugawa of Lawai; grandchildren Reverie Mei Ling (Kevork) Nazarian of Torrance, California, Richard Mew Ling (Tiffany) Ching of Irving Texas, Victoria Chiye Tsugawa of Oxnard California and Michael Edward Tsugawa of Bethesda, Maryland; great-grandchildren Avedis Richard Nazarian, Shaunt Edward Nazarian, Arik Matthew Nazarian of Torrance, California, Caitlyn Lindsay Ching, Kelsey Ching, and Brandon Ching of Irving, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be private.
