McKenna Pascua, coming off the Miss Kauai Filipina Scholarship Pageant Saturday night, got a head start on her culinary arts studies Sunday at the Rotary Club of Kapaa’s 27th annual Taste of Hawaii.
Dr. Addison Bulosan of The Specific Chiropractic Center was also busy with the pageant, but woke up early to join Juno Apalla (she was working the light room at the pageant) in helping at the Taste.
Of course, it’s not a Taste unless you check in with Freckles Smith and Alii (Mel Arellano of the Seaside restaurant and aqua farms in Hilo had a hard time envisioning the ulua swimming in the lagoon), and good luck to Mark Bonilla who is now in Honolulu for training with the Jack in the Box opening in Hokulei Village.
Susan “Shelsea” Fein of Heartflame Bakery (the cookies looked delicious) said they’ll be opening a retail bakery in Puhi “real soon,” too, and to talk story with Christian Maston, Nanea Marston and the crew at Tahiti Nui (Keaki Correa did a great job frying the one) was da bomb… Jared Diaz of Santa Maria Style BBQ had his share of photo bombs, too.
