Man faces kidnapping charges

LIHUE — A Kauai man is facing kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment and terroristic threatening charges stemming from an alleged assault against a household member earlier this year.

Michael Palani Mawae is accused of verbally threatening and physically abusing, including choking, his victim on March 7, according to court files.

Mawae was indicted on April 16. The grand jury charged him on one count of kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment in the first degree, assault in the second degree, terroristic threatening in the second degree, one count of abuse of family or household members, and one count for abuse of a family or household member by choking.

The trial date is scheduled for 9 a.m. Aug. 31 at 5th Circuit Court House in Lihue.
