HONOLULU — Winning videos from the Olelo Youth Xchange Student Video Competition were announced Monday at the Awards Gala at the Sheraton Waikiki Resort.
From Kauai, the winners included Kauai High School which won for the video “Benefits of Physical Education” in the animation category and for the video “Feral Pigs” in the Forest Health in Hawaii Category. Kapaa High School also won for the video “He Loves Me Not” in the Creating Peace Category.
Olelo Youth Xchange was developed to help give island keiki a voice to tell stories in a variety of video formats and about subjects that are meaningful to them.
The winning videos in other divisional categories are from students who attend public, charter and private schools all across Oahu, Kauai and Maui.
High-definition Sony digital HD video cameras valued at $700 were awarded to the winning schools in each of the 44 divisional categories. The winners in the Expert and Junior Categories were presented with Sony digital 4K video cameras valued at over $1,000.
Students competed in three age divisions: elementary, intermediate and high school. Previous winners and students with professional experience competed in the Junior Expert (kindergarten through middle school) and Expert (high school and college) categories.
The awards banquet show was aired live and will be repeated on Saturday at 10:30 a.m., May 17 at 6 p.m., May 18 at 12 p.m. and May 22 at 10:30 p.m., all on Channel 54.
