NAWILIWILI — Fast Company, after playing third fiddle to OZone the previous week, roared to the top of the Nawiliwili Yacht Club Carmelita Miranda Memorial Run Race Series by taking Race No. 4 on Thursday.
NYC Rear Commodore Fred Styer described race day as “a classic day with winds of more than 20 mph blowing in from the northeast and pushing all five mono hull sailboats to ‘reef the main’ throughout the race.”
Fast Company, in this environment of strong wind energy, topped the elapsed sail at 55 minutes, 5 seconds and corrected to 55:10 PHRF for top honors, her third first finish over the four-race span.
Weatherly, an Olson 30 who held the lead around the outside jetty on the first of three legs, followed the order on a 58:15 elapsed sail, correcting to 58:20 PHRF and the runner-up position.
With the first two boats crossing the 6.0-mile course in less than an hour, Speedy slipped past the finish buoy on a 1:01:13 elapsed sail and corrected to 1:01:19 PHRF followed by Coyote, a C&C 38, stopping the clock at 1:07:34 elapsed sail and correcting to 1:03:17 PHRF.
OZone, who captured top honors in the previous week’s race, posted a “did not finish.”
The racing action continues Thursday when the NYC Race Committee hosts the fifth race of the Carmelita Miranda Memorial Rum Series. First flags fly at 5 p.m.
