Flash flooding closes Kalalau Trail

The Department of Land and Natural Resources announced that the Kalalau Trail is closed today due to flash flooding conditions. Please refrain from hiking in the area until conditions improve.

People should not attempt to cross fast-flowing or rising waters. Stay in place until waters recede or help arrives. Updates on the trail closure will be posted as information becomes available.

Ocean Safety officials are also advising no swimming at all North Shore beaches due to high surf and dangerous ocean conditions.

The National Weather Service posted a High Surf Advisory for all north and east-facing shores of Kauai and Niihau until 6 tonight. The warning may be extended or modified as conditions develop.

The Kekaha lifeguard tower is closed today due to a manpower shortage.

For up-to-date information about ocean conditions, please speak to a county lifeguard, log onto www.kauaiexplorer.com, or call the Ocean Safety Bureau at 241-4984.
