Bicyclist hospitalized following traffic crash

KAPAA – A bicyclist was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle along Kuhio Highway in Kapaa Friday morning.

According to a preliminary report, the 55-year-old female cyclist was traveling south along the northbound lane of Kuhio Highway at around 9:45 a.m., when she was struck by a sedan attempting to turn into the northbound lane from the Bobby V’s Pizzeria parking lot.

The 19-year-old driver of the sedan was not injured. The bicyclist was transported by medics to Wilcox Memorial Hospital.

Officers diverted northbound traffic onto Kamoa Road while emergency personnel responded to the scene. Kuhio Highway was reopened shortly after 10 a.m.
